Three Step Pomander Flower Centerpiece Tutorial

Pomanders are such a beautiful addition to any table. The options are endless in flower, color and display. They can be done for the most formal events in beautiful deep tones. In pastels, they can add a soft touch to a baby shower or first birthday. They can even be dressed down; imagine glavanized buckets or sand pails of daisies for your next outdoor barbecue.

Flower choice, of course, is the most exciting part of the pomander. The rich smell of roses can make your dinner party linger in the memory of your guests well past your event. The versatility in color and hardiness of carnations offer so many choices. It really can be an exciting part of your party planning. It’s affordable and easy to boot.

Three easy steps are all it takes for you to create your own at home, and this pomander flower centerpiece tutorial shows you how! Thank you to Patti of Buds, Etc. for demonstrating how to make these beautiful arrangements, as seen in the Pancake and Pajama Party!

Three Step Pomander Flower Centerpiece Tutorial

Step 1. Cut the stems of the carnations to about 1 inch, removing all leaves.

Step 2. Insert carnations into a floral foam ball that has been soaked in water. Start at the bottom and add the flowers in concentric rings. Make sure you put enough pressure on the flower head to put it all the way in on the first push.

Place the carnations into the foam close together enough that the petals touch. The flowers will continue to open, filling in the empty spaces.

Step 3. Once all the flowers have been placed in the floral foam, put the pomander on top of a vase that has been weighted in the bottom so the arrangement does not fall over.

Water the arrangement by placing the ball in a shallow dish of water.

This is such a great idea. I love flowers on the table, but don't like when they block the view of the people on the other side. This is a great alternative. Thanks for sharing!

I've seen these before and thought putting one together was complicated. Not so! I am the most florally challenged person on earth but I think I can handle this one. Very pretty Paula.

I believe we used 20 or so. But it a lot depends on the size of your carnations, how tightly you put them together, etc. as to how many you use.
