Touchdown Burger Slider Bar

Touchdown Burger Slider Bar

There is a big football game coming this weekend, one for which I always seem to have the driving need to make lots of game day food. As luck would have it, about the time I started thinking about the big game, CampbellsKitchen.com sent me a few coupons and asked me to make something from their (very extensive) recipe site. They’ve come out with this really neat new product called “Flavor Boost” sold through their Swanson Line–basically, it’s a super concentrated stock, but when you add it to ground beef, WOW! You have yourself a really awesome burger. A really really easy to make awesome burger. And I love easy when I’m entertaining.

So with flavor boost and Flavor Boost Burger recipe in hand, I started assembling a mouth watering slider bar. And for those of you wondering, I made sliders instead of full-sized burgers so everyone bellying up to the bar on Superbowl Sunday could try a few different combos of burger toppings instead of just one. A tray of pre-made sliders on Pepperidge Farm Whole Wheat slider buns (we, ahem, eat healthy around here) anchored the bar and all the fixings were set in front:

  • Condiments
  • Carmelized Onions
  • Tomato
  • Sauteed Mushrooms
  • Bacon
  • Pickle Chips
  • Lettuce
  • Assorted Cheeses
Now, I did have a few other things I wanted to try out, but it was just me and the kids devouring this shoot today. Other inventive things you might want to try on your burger slider bar:
  • Roasted Red pepper
  • Fried eggs
  • Salsa
  • Avacado
  • Sprouts
  • Blue Cheese
  • Pinapple
  • Barbecue sauce
  • Shredded pork barbecue
  • Sauerkraut
  • Buffalo sauce
Really, there are about a zillion things you can put on a burger to make it taste even better! And if you’re a straightforward kind of person that needs a recipe, there are lots of burger combinations in the recipe vaults of Campbell’s Kitchen if you want to take yourself a quick browse.
Burgers and potatoes go together like peas and carrots, so I made up a few kinds of sides. First, and by far the favorite were these potato skins. Very easy to make, but they take a bit of time.

Game Day Potato Skins

Potatoes
Butter, melted
Chopped, Cooked Bacon
Cheddar Cheese
Sour Cream
Scallions
Quantities of your ingredients will vary based on how many you’re going to make. Plan on 1 tsp butter, 3 tbsp cheese, 1 tbsp sour cream and a sprinkling of the bacon and scallions per potato.
Slather the potatoes in olive oil and pop them in the oven to bake like you were making a baked potato. When they are done, take them out, cut them in half and scoop most of the potato-ey part out of the middle. (Yes, that is a technical term.) Cover those bad boys in butter, inside and out, and pop them back in a 400 degree oven for 10 minutes to get a little bit crispy. Take them back out and layer in cheese and bacon. Bake again for 6 minutes, or until all that cheese is melted down into the inside of your skin.
For the final step, top with sour cream and your sprinkling of chives. Serve to your appreciative fans.
Oven baked steak fries were served up on the bar as well. Again super easy (do you see a theme here?) Cut your potato into wedges, sprinkle with olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika and garlic powder. Bake at 400 degrees for 35 minutes. Turn them about half way through so they get crispy on both sides.
A burger slider bar is a fairly easy way to make a memorable impression on Superbowl Sunday. And when you start with a good burger base like the Flavor Boost Burgers, you’re sure to score with your fans.
