First Communion Party to Celebrate a Religious Milestone

First Communion Party to Celebrate a Religious Milestone

first communion-20Not to sound cliche, but my daughter, Madeline, is growing up before my very eyes. I feel like the last eight years have slipped through my fingers like fine sand, especially since we’re starting to hit some big milestones. Her first communion was in May, and it made me teary-eyed to see her looking so grown up in her pretty white dress and veil all excited to take on a bigger part of church than before. So of course we had to celebrated this blessed event and have a party, even if it was only for our family!

After years of nothing but pink, Maddie’s favorite color is now purple, or rather light purple or lavender. I like the way a party looks when you wash it in white (perfect for a first communion) with just a few touches of a single color. That’s what I did for this communion, and I loved the results!

As I said, this party was for family–all of which came from out of town. We were so grateful to have them all together! A special table and dessert bar was set for everyone to enjoy. The cutwork table cloth bought on a trip to Malta by my sister-in-law covered the table, while the beaded and lacy bottom of wedding dress made the stunning cover for the dessert table.

Dozens of white tulips decorated the house–they were my favorite part of the party!

I sprinkled a few flowers other places, like the handmade napkin rings and these sweet little glass charms to pull the lavender color to the table.

Several of her photo from her portrait session in her communion dress were framed and scattered about the tables as well. The pretty veil? We have Tikkido to thank for it!

The lunch menu was set by my daughter to include her favorites–things like quiche, cucumber sandwiches, berries and a few other finger foods. For dessert? The requests were chocolate cake and cake pops. I read her mind and ordered some sugar cookies and cake pops as well.

The star of the show were the dazzling cake pops by the Sweet Tooth Bar in New York City. Beautiful, brilliant, and from what I’m told, super yummy too!

Callabaut white chocolate-covered oreos with hand-gilded flowers from Earth and Sugar bakery in Palm Beach, and were another of our guests’ favorite sweet treat.
