Chalkboard Label Simon Says Playdate Party

Chalkboard Label Simon Says Playdate Party

simon says playdate partyIt’s summertime, and that means the kids are home for large parts of the day. Keeping us all sane and entertained becomes a bigger challenge as the long days of summer tick on. Having our friends over for playdates becomes and bigger and bigger part of our summer boredom buster strategy. This week, we had a “Simon Says” playdate party and did some fun and simple decorating using erasable chalkboard labels by Bright Star Kids and we’re happy to share all our playdate party ideas with you below! simon says playdate party-4Since we chose “Simon Says” as our playdate party theme, we started out with a couple of enthusiastic rounds of the game “Simon Says.” Turns out it was the only time this week my kids listened really well! It was pretty competitive, but as always with this game, there were lots of giggles all around. After the adult led activity, there was a good chunk of free play and then we had the eagerly anticipated “Simon’s Sundaes” – it was a great sundae bar set up to beat the heat, complete with “Simon Says” style instructions!  The Bright Star Kids  chalkboard labels were a huge help whipping together some quick and creative decorations to delight all our play date friends.

There are so many different kinds of chalkboard label products on the Bright Star Kids  site, I could have spent days getting creative with these, but this was meant to be a super easy to put together play date for busy moms, so I picked two packages of labels — vintage chalkboard labels  and speech bubble chalkboard markers — and made a few creative projects! simon says playdate party-2While I was shopping at Bright Star Kids , I also picked up a chalkboard paint pen. I have tried quite a few varieties of this pen, and must say this one is my favorite! Even flow, and very easy to wipe off.

First up was our Simon’s Sundaes banner. The vintage chalkboard labels  came in three different sizes on the same sheet. Using the middle size frames, I cut small squares of paper and placed a frame in each.  I hand lettered “Simon’s Sundaes” onto the banner panels. The chalk marker used with the chalk board labels make them erasable–so once you complete this little project, you can wipe off the letters and use it for something else later! To make it really durable, upgrade your paper for some small thin pieces of balsa wood. To finish the banner, I threaded a wide eyed needle with some bakers twine and wove it through the panels. Personalized Ice Cream Bowls

A really cool feature of the labels is that they are entirely removable and repositionable, but super sticky when they need to be! What that means is, that it was a-OK with me to put a few on some of my white dishware so that the kids could all write their names on their bowls. Or in my daughter’s case, make her mark. Whatever encourages creativity, right? We set the bowls and chalk marker at the beginning of the bar and the kids worked their way down following Simon’s instructions. Make Your Own Chalkboard Clothespin Tags

The food tags were pretty easy to make. I bought a bag of pre-painted clothespins, and glued slips of card stock to each of the pins. One of the speech bubble chalkboard markers  was placed on the center of the card stock, and then written on using the chalkboard pen. Place them on a tray for speedy delivery at your party!  Playdate party ideas with chalkboard labels #playdatesimon says playdate party-10 Playdate party ideas with chalkboard labels #playdate Only my sprinkle bowls had straight sides, so I used a few gumball-filled cups to attach the clothespins. They were a cute and colorful addition to the table! simon says playdate party-13 Of course, my daughter’s favorite part of the party was the whipped cream can. I used the speech bubble labels directly on the can and instructed them to spray whipped cream in their mouth. As you can imagine, it was free license to make a bit of a mess in her opinion. But all in good fun! simon says playdate party-16 The make-your-own-sundaes with Simon were a HUGE hit, took very little time to set up and made our playdate the event of the week! If you plan to throw your own Simon Says playdate party, here are a few other ideas to use your chalkboard labels and generally fill up some more time during your playdate!

  • Make name tags for your cups. Or sippy cups.  Because they’re erasable, you can  easily use your labeled vessels from party to party. Ours stuck pretty well through the wash, but were still easy to peel off when we needed them to.
  • Make speech bubble pictures. Take a quick picture of each of your little guests (or ask the parents to bring a photo) and quickly print them at your party. Have the kids choose a speech bubble to put on the photo and let them enjoy writing quotes on their own pictures!
  • Add a few more classic no-equipment games to your party. Red rover, duck duck goose, and red light green light are all good choices!
