This Fairy Tale first birthday was thrown by Sweet Pea Soirees in the DC Metro area for her daughter Gracyn. Everything about this party is whimsical–nothing is matchy matchy, but everything works together so well! Each little guest was given either fairy wings or dragon duds as they came into the party, and spent the afternoon enjoying a puppet show and some neat treats. Frog Prince Paperie was happy to be able to contribute the place cards for this event from the Butterfly Kisses line.

Love the little handmade toadstool cupcakes, and of course the birthday girl cupcake smash!

This mock-wedding celebrating all things Fairy as in a Midsummer’s Night Dream was take-your-breath-away beautiful. Unbelievable details. Inspired imagination. Incredible skill. Just WOW. While I can’t foresee ever replicating something like this, these fairy pictures in their secluded glen are fabulous to look at. I was going to include them in my “inspiration board” for the midsummer party I am planning, but they are just too good not to show on their own…

Thank you to florist and event designer Tricia Fountaine and photographer Elizabeth Messina for such wonderful images!

My mother’s birthday is very soon, and since our annual pilgrimage to grandma’s allows us to be there for this special day, we’re throwing her a birthday party…something I know she hasn’t had in 20 years. And when I say we, I do mean the WHOLE family is getting involved in the planning and preparation. Father, brothers, sister-in-laws, kids and all!

When deciding on a direction for the party, all I could think about was mom’s lush green sprawling lawn and her beautiful gardens. The first thing I always do when I go home to Virginia is take off my shoes and walk through the nice soft grass and visit the flowers. It’s always a moment of zen and magic as I soak in the vibrant colors and beautiful smells.
.
Last year when we were visiting I caught Mads in one of her (many) tutus running through the dappled sunlight in the garden. It was just magical…all she needed was a pair of pixie wings and some sparkly dust…this soon became a favorite picture of all of ours and it’s something I think about whenever I think about my summers at home now.

So how to weave together a bit of fairy magic and a beautiful garden backdrop into a party adults would enjoy as well as the children in attendance? I decided on an old classic in “A Midsummer’s Night Dream,” but with a few definite twists that I will leave as surprises until the party pictures are up in a few weeks.
