Coffee and Cravings Baby Shower

Coffee and Cravings Baby Shower

My dear dear friend Meg is finally getting the chance to be a mom for a second time. All of us are totally thrilled for her! There was no question her second bambino was going to get a baby shower, but Meg really isn’t the cute fuzzy bunny, birds and little pink elephants baby shower type–it’s just not her style. And there may have been a few threats from her involved if we had them at her shower.  So instead of throwing her a typical baby shower, we threw her a party that was all about Meg and the things she loves as a way to welcome for the new baby. Coffee….cravings…and a bottle or two of Cabernet were in order for a coffee and cravings baby shower.

Our party was fairly small, so I didn’t go overboard loading up the dessert table with tons of sweets, and it worked out great! I made Meg’s favorite carrot cake and flanked it with sides of donuts and oreos stacked up in cake shapes. Serve yourself coffee was on the bar for anyone who wanted any. I have to give huge credit to my husband for his help with the coffee bar…he was nice enough to make that giant chalkboard for me out of plywood and some fence planks. It turned out wonderfully and I love it so much I think I’ll keep it there above the buffet!

My daughter was working on her science fair project the weekend of this baby shower–a cupcake experiment–so I used the resulting cupcakes to whip up another treat. Salted caramel cupcakes are a favorite among our friends, and I used a few touches to make them Starbucks worthy.

I put together a big table for us all to sit at and chat. There were no baby shower games this time; being such good friends that don’t get to spend as much time together as we like, we prefer to talk anyhow! The crepe paper flowers worked wonderfully with the nuetrals in the room.

Things that went well with wine (not pictured) were the perfect choices for a lazy afternoon sipping coffee and vino.

As sad as we were to see the shower end, we all had kids and families and other things to get back to. All our guests were given a custom coffee mug on their way out. Meg tends to be a bit witty, so coffee mugs with a few wry sayings on them were a good choice to remember the day!. The mom-to-be loved this non-baby shower coffee and cravings baby shower, and the rest of us had a more than great time at it as well!
