Halloween Day 21: Add a costume or two

It’s about that time where everyone starts scrambling to make or buy a Halloween Costume – one that’s witty or just really stands out in a crowd. I am sparing everyone the gratuitous pictures of my homemade costumes for my little darlings and instead am serving up some really great homespun ideas to get in the spirit of the day. My absolute and total favorite that I ran across in my search was this Disco Ball costume. It is pure genius. And completely cool – she was her own party wherever she went, as the disco ball had speakers that blared disco music, and there were LED lights pointed at the mirrors to give the full disco effect.

I wish I had found this tutorial before I started sewing a wedding dress for a 4-year old (yes, she is four and already obsessed with the dress, heaven help me!) Make It and Love It gives a full tutorial on making your own little Miss Cinderella costume, complete with accessories!

I have friends who always do the family costume thing–and I’m always in awe that they can get everyone to agree on the same thing! Martha offers up some ideas and how-to’s if your into familial get-ups here.

You have to give this paper doll costume a gold star for inventiveness. A very inexpensive costume to make with a great finishing touch of a paper jack-o-lantern treat bag!

Dana Made It posted a tutorial on these positively precious Sam I Am and cat in the hat costumes. The creativity never ceases to amaze me!

Make your own little forest of saplings with this tree costume tutorial by we wilsons. It was made with a throw blanket!

As for my house, we’re working on a bride costume, a leprechaun baby (more than a little irish here), Super Dad and Mom’s going to be a boring old witch like she was last year. I am hoping next year there are a few more moments in the day to be a little bit more creative!
