In the south, it is not uncommon to while away an afternoon sitting on the porch, drinking tall glasses of iced tea and shooting the breeze. It’s completely idyllic and a wonderful way to catch up with good friends and family. We called it “porch-sittin'” where we lived. Of course, people allowed a whole afternoon on their porch with a glass of tea likely don’t have kids. Nowadays, it’s nice to put the kids to bed, call up my girl friends, make up a quick appetizer (like Mango Peach Salsa) and pull out an extra special bottle of tea we just discovered – Iced Teagaritas by Jose Cuervo. It’s margaritas made better!
Iced Teagaritas are exactly what they sound like, a fun blend of iced tea and classic lime margarita, Jose Cuervo Tequilla and orange liqueur (19.9 Proof / 9.95% ABV). The tastes marry amazingly well, and all together lends itself to some summery serving suggestions. Teagaritas launched in May, but they’re rolling out to more and more stores as summer goes along! You can pick up a 750ml bottle for about $12-$13.
In the spirit and intention of doing some good ol’ southern “porch sittin’,” this week I went over to my friend’s house who happens to live on a pretty little creek complete with dock and a nice breeze. I had a babysitter, the sun was setting, it was blessedly cool outside, and I had a bottle of Jose Cuervo Teagarita in on arm and a big dish of gluten-free Mango Peach Salsa with sweet potato chips in the other. Life was good.
Iced Teagarita Serving Suggestions
Iced Teagaritas are perfect for the busy hostess or hostesses who rather spend their time sipping beverages over making them, as this is a pour and serve proposition. You just have to make sure you land a few ice cubes in the glass before you pour your Iced Teagarita. Those empty mason jars were totally begging for one of these nice yummy drinks.
The flavors of the Iced Teagarita are the perfect compliment to fruit. Yes, fruit! We tried some peach puree with them, and it was good, but quite frankly too much work. But if you’ve got the time, pop some ice, frozen peaches (or other fruit of your choice) and Iced Teagarita pour and serve drinks into the blender and frappe to your heart’s content. It’s good.
While fabulous as a frozen concoction, we liked just a hint of fruity flavor with our Teagaritas even better. When you’re filling your jar full of ice, fill it up with a fruit–like ripe summer peaches–at the same time for a truly refreshing drink and pour the Iced Teagaritas over top.
Nothing better than eating fresh fruit out of your beverage!
Of course, there had to be a few munchies while we were sitting shooting the breeze (in the breeze!) With all the extra peaches I had, I made a really yummy Mango Peach Salsa. Served with gluten-free sweet potato corn chips, it was a treat even I could enjoy!
Mango Peach Salsa
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup finely chopped vidalia or other sweet onion
- 1 to 1/4 cup chopped peaches about 2 peaches
- 1 cup chopped mango about 1 mango
- 2 cups diced tomato
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in medium bowl. Serve with corn chips or dipper of your choice. This salsa is also fabulous served over fish or chicken for an entree!
I thoroughly enjoyed my porch visit with my friend, taking in the outdoors and without a doubt my new favorite summer cocktail. Hope everyone out there is able to get some quality “Porch Sittin'” in themselves this summer!
