Spooky Black Cat Pops – A Tutorial and How To

It’s always the little details at parties that make the guests ooh and aah. Especially when it’s edible like these spooky black cat pops. No one has to tell them quite how easy these details are to create!

Ingredients:

Ring Dings (premade)

Candy Eyeballs

Chocolate Almond Bark or chocolate

White Almond Bark

Pecans or Almonds

Lollipop sticks for Cookies

How-To:

After the ears are made, everything else is quick assembly. At the start of projects like these I’m often scrambling through my kitchen to see what I have to work with, not necessarily what is 100% right for what I’m doing. I bought the ring dings and cookie pop sticks with an idea of what I wanted to create, thinking in there was something at home that would work. Which brings me to my pecan fiasco.

Pecans really do work just fine as ears. If you want to make bears. To make the ears, all you have to do is dip the tips of the pecans into chocolate and let them dry just like in the picture above, then stick them in the tops of the ring ding to look like ears. And voila, you have a bear. But since we’re making cats here, I will clue you in to an important step.  Cut the tip of the pecan into a sharp “V” shape and THEN dip. Much more cat-like.

While you’re waiting for the ears to harden, you can make the rest of the face. I melted a little white chocolate, then put a few dots where I wanted my candy eyes to go and placed them on. I turned one over for the nose. Using a toothpick, I put more white chocolate on for whiskers.

Put the ears in the top of the ring ding, and a cookie stick in the bottom and you’re ready to serve. Add a little embellishment if you have time.
