Since we’re now officially past labor day and nearly halfway through September, I feel it’s time to publicly start celebrating my favorite two months of the year: Halloween. (Yes, the decorations started going up two weeks ago, and I squeeze every last minute out of them.) I started poking around for a few ideas on neat decorations, and I was nearly overwhelmed by the number of amazing spooky ideas out there. So for the next 31 days, I ‘m going to share with you tips, tricks, recipes and tutorials all to celebrate the Halloween season!
Here’s a few tips to kick off the month and some sneak peeks at the decorating going on at my (haunted) house…
Apothecary jars aren’t just for dessert tables! Fill them with creepy crawlies or little pumpkins for a great centerpiece.
Never underestimate the power of a couple of cans of black spray paint. I had a variety of thrift store finds I spookied up with a little black paint to make them part of our haunted manor decor. This particular item (that the glittery skull is resting on) was a curtain sconce. It will soon be a shelf on the wall, but I like it just how it is as well.
Pay a visit to the Dollar Store. It’s amazing what comes through there. We now have a flock–about 30 or so–in residence that were purchased there. (Can you say nevermore?) I feel like I should put down newspaper or something for them… Yesterday, I also found tiny glittered skulls (worth buying and not doing yourself) and mesh cloth that is perfect for draping over furniture pieces for an eerie look. And all for a dollar a piece!
And the last Halloween tip of the day is to have a sense of humor with your decor. The tricking and treating is what makes the holiday so fun!
