Every time I go to the grocery store to pick up a carton of Silk, I am tickled at the new varieties that are coming out. This month: Eggnog. I’m still hunting that one down, but in my search I did come across the amazingly delicious Silk Almondmilk in Dark Chocolate. Yum. The eggnog was on my mind and I dearly wanted a fun holiday drink, so I picked up the dark chocolate almondmilk and brought it home to make up a batch of chocolate peppermint smoothies.
The flavor of the dark chocolate milk isn’t incredibly intense, so it makes for easy drinking. Add a little chocolate sprinkled rim, and it’s like a virtual holiday party at snack time.
Chocolate Peppermint Smoothie Recipe
- 1 candy cane (or 3 peppermints), unwrapped
- 1 cup Silk Almondmilk, dark chocolate flavor
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup crushed ice
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
First thing you’ll want to do is unwrap your peppermints or candy cane. Throw them into the bowl of your blender and puree them into dust…or at least very very small pieces.
Add the Silk Dark Chocolate Almondmilk, frozen banana, ice and cocoa powder to the blender.
BANANA TIP: My family likes to neglect the bananas on the counter, so I always seem to have a ready supply of nice sweet ones. Once they start getting brown, I peel them, put them in a ziploc bag and throw them in the freezer. It makes whipping up smoothies or banana bread pretty easy and we waste less food.
After you’ve put all your ingredients in the blender, puree until the mix is completely smooth. Pour into a glass and serve!
How to Make a Chocolate Sprinkle Glass Rim
This part is what makes a drink something really special! It’s super easy to do, and takes very little time.
Chocolate Rim Ingredients
- Chocolate Chips
- Sprinkles
Pour the sprinkles into a dish wide enough to fit the glasses you are creating a chocolate rim on.
In a dish that is wide enough to put the rim of your glass in, melt 1/2 cup or so of chocolate chips. I usually to this in the microwave; put the dish in for 30 seconds, then stir. Put in for an additional 15 seconds and stir again. Put the chocolate in the microwave for 15 seconds at a time until you stir and it is completely smooth.
Dip the chocolate rim into the dish of sprinkles. Turn back over and wait for the chocolate to harden before use.
