In the Twilight books, mushroom ravioli was a perfect first date food. In order to make it more appetizer-esque to serve at a Twilight themed party this Halloween, pre-packaged mushroom ravioli was breaded and quickly fried to make finger food. Or a “forks” food with a cheeky fork in the top to pay homage to Bella and Edward’s home town. Individual plating is totally optional, but don’t skip on a dipper of good marinara sauce; it sets off the ravioli perfectly!
Forks Fried Mushroom Ravioli
16 oz bag mushroom ravioli thawed or refrigerated ravioli
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups bread crumbs
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
2 tablespoons micro-grated parmesean cheese (optional)
Olive oil for frying
Bottled marinara sauce
Fill a saucepan on the stove with 2 inches of olive oil and heat. Test readiness for frying by sprinkling crumbs in the oil; if they sizzle, you’re ready to cook.
Combine bread crumbs, Italian seasoning and parmesean cheese in a bowl. Dip each ravioli in the egg mixture then the breading mixture and place in the oil. You can fry four to five ravioli at a time without affecting the temperature of the oil. Cook about 90 seconds; the ravioli are done when they start to float. Place on paper towels to cool slightly before serving and soak up any extra grease.
When plating, put a small amount of heated marinara down then your ravioli. A fork in the top of the ravioli is a clever reference to Forks, Washington in the books.
