Football Craft: Mini Megaphones and Foam Finger for Superbowl Parties

The Superbowl is one of those events that we don’t put much thought into creating an experience for kids for–even so, most of us will have those critters running around our feet for at least part of the game, so it’s a good idea to have something for them to get them in the spirit or otherwise find some way for them to be involved in the party. Even if that’s just the family sitting on the couch and catching the commercials. A few foam fingers (in team colors) and some mini megaphones for rooting for the team are quick an easy crafts everyone in the family will enjoy. I’m betting even dad will put a #1 on his hand or raise a megaphone so the TV will hear his delight or displeasure with the ump’s calls.

How to Make a DIY Foam Finger

I’ve designed this tutorial to fit a letter sized sheet of foam, but if you have access to a copier that will blow images up huge, they make foam sheets up to 13×19, so go crazy! I located my foam sheets at Hobby Lobby.

Materials:

  • Printable foam finger template
  • Foam sheets

Print the foam finger template to cardstock and cut it out. Trace the template to the foam sheets. There is a front and a back to the finger pieces; you’ll want to hide your pin marks, so flip over the template every time you trace it to create mirror images.

After you’re all done tracing, cut out the finger pieces.

With the pen-marked sides facing each other, run a bead of hot glue around the edges of the finger shape and press the two sides together.

If you’d like to add some verbiage to your foam finger, there will be plenty of scraps to work with! We drew on and cut out a #1 to accent our DIY foam fingers.

How to Make a Mini Megaphone

These pint size megaphones are just perfect for the short set that may want to get in on the excitement of a game! They are a less than five minute crafty project, so they are both fun AND fast!!

Meet Paula

My father came home from a trip for work when I was a little girl toting a huge (to me) book of fairy tales. I was instantly smitten with the beautiful illustrations and the stories that came alive from those worn pages. My favorite was always the frog prince…my mother read it to me over and over (and over.) Read More…
