Halloween Dinner: Mummy Hotdogs on a Stick with Mini-Mummies

Halloween Dinner: Mummy Hotdogs on a Stick with Mini-Mummies

On Halloween night, it is inevitable that the kids are so spun up about putting costumes on and candy marauding that they just can’t sit still to put good food in their bellies. That’s when you have to pull out a mom trick or two and make the meal fun to eat! We’re planning ahead, and this year for all the extra kids we have at the trick-or-treat pre-party Halloween dinner at our house, I am going to make up classic mummy hot dogs, but with a twist. #MummyDogs

Everything is more fun on a stick, even mummified hot dogs. But wait! There’s more! We’re going to make some mini-mummies, too just because they’re so darn cute.

This is one of those super easy crafty foods because you really don’t have to MAKE anything. It’s just a little assembly.

Pillsbury has an excellent post complete with video on how to make the crescent roll-wrapped hot dog mummies on their ReadyPlanSave.com Halloween site that does a bang up job of showing exactly how to make them in under two minutes.

How to Make Mummy Dogs on a Stick

Any excuse to put something food related on a stick, I do it. (Coincidentally, On a Stick is totally one of my favorite cookbooks.)

After you follow the Pillsbury Mummy Dog recipe, and your mummies are cooked, gently push a cookie stick through the bottom of the hot dog until the dog has some support. That means push the stick in until it no longer flops over when you hold it upright. Easy, huh?

If you want to serve the mummy dogs growing out of a pot or bowl or whatever creepy prop you have on hand, just make sure you’ve got a bit of foam inside the container to push the stick part into so it has support to stand up.

How to Make Mini Mummy Dogs

Using the same Pillsbury Mummy Dog recipe as before, we’re going to make one tweak! Instead of hot dogs, use the little sausages. One quick strip of Pillsbury Original Crescent Roll and a wrap and put them in oven to bake, same length of time. This makes a totally poppable appetizer for a Halloween Party or a dinner that will completely delight your children.
