Johnny Appleseed Playdate Party

Whether it’s football on lazy Sunday afternoons or the arrival of Pumpkin Lattes at Starbucks, even the most summer-loving fools like myself can’t help but be charmed by the trappings of fall. No matter what it is that we most look forward to in fall,  there’s nothing more symbolic of this cheerful season than a crisp, delicious apple.

And there’s no person more tied to apples than the famous Johnny Appleseed.

We held a little Johnny Appleseed celebration full of things that reminded us of the spirit of his work. He’s a pretty interesting character if you read about his real history!

Beyond the birthday, this party theme would be perfect for a fall festival, back to school party or a getting to know you gathering for kids who are in a new school this year, like mine.  There are so many possibilities with this one.

The spirit of Johnny Appleseed is all about love. We added a few printable reminders on our party goods! Cones like these are perfect for chips at a party–and they’re just made with a single sheet of paper, so inexpensive to boot.

Apples dipped in peanut butter are always a great treat–even at a party!

Seriously, have you ever seen anything cuter than that? This printable on an iron on transfer made for perfect pillows on a set of muslin pillow covers.

Delicious, healthy and environmentally friendly. Do you remember those bamboo spoons from the PB & J Jam? A little jute and a printable sticker and our homemade applesauce gets a great Johnny Appleseed upgrade.

Johnny Appleseed was, ahem, a bit of a “naturalist…” and I do love cracking myself up, so a few “Au Natural” printable water bottle labels wrapped around milk bottles hit the spot for drinks.

Trees as party favors, in the Johnny Appleseed spirit. Apple trees may be hard to find depending on your area, but any tree with a pretty printable tag will do. Planting this would be a great family activity after the party, and a reminder of the day for years to come.

Love a party that’s fun and and all natural? Check out this other eco-friendly party, Plant a Seed by Frog Prince Paperie as well.

Meet Paula

My father came home from a trip for work when I was a little girl toting a huge (to me) book of fairy tales. I was instantly smitten with the beautiful illustrations and the stories that came alive from those worn pages. My favorite was always the frog prince…my mother read it to me over and over (and over.) Read More…
