{Real Parties} Goldilocks and the Three Bears – Part II

Brennan’s Goldilocks and the Three Bears birthday party was filled with details – but it made the experience for all our guests “Just Right!”

In the beginning planning stages of this party, I did chat with a few of my favorite party girls to help get the juices flowing! There wasn’t much “inspiration” out there in way of a three bears party to draw from. The fabulous Natalie at Southern Belle’s Charm made the fantastic suggestion of making a bed into a table for the kids to eat at. (She is available for party planning consultation for anyone needing a little nudge in the right party planning direction!)

The bed wasn’t as complicated (or expensive) as you might think~even I have a party budget. I trolled Craigs List for a few weeks until I found a bed with a perfect shape. I fixed the color with a couple cans of spray paint, and my husband put a piece of plywood (cut to size) across the steel runners to create the eating surface. A few steps to fabulous, but really easy to do!

The backs of each little chair were tied with orange and teal tulle and a polka dot strip of fabric. The little bears had each child’s name on it so everyone knew where to sit. (As a side note, two year olds cannot read, so they all sat where they wanted anyway!)

Down the center of the table were rustic wooden bears tied with big bows. I found a wealth of the at Goodwill. (Great place to scour for party props!) At each place setting there was a gabled box with a lunch “just right for baby bears” in it with a bamboo spoon for eating tied to the handle. There was a strong warning to Goldilocks to leave these lunches alone! Having lunch pre-packed for the kids made it easier on the parents, and the kids LOVED opening up the boxes to find the surprises inside!

Natalie at Southern Belle’s Charm also lent her considerable talent to Brenann’s party and made these incredible party hats. They’re cute, but let me tell you how well made these hats are!! The stood up to our motley little bears and every one still looked perfect on their way out the door with our guests. The kids loved them, and they made for some great festive pictures.

I just loved the favors for this party. I’d like to take credit for the idea, but again this was another gem from Natalie at Southern Belle’s Charm. The painted bowls were another easy crafty item to make; Michaels sells porcelain paint pens that you just write on your bowl with then bake for a bit. If you need to do anything more complicated than a name, I’d really recommend seeking a professional to make them for you. Each little bowl had a bigger bamboo spoon that was also personalized for each child. A teddy bear with a teal bow filled each bowl.

These turned out to be great long-lasting favors; one of the moms sent me a sweet note saying, “Livy eats every meal with the bowl and spoon you made with her name on it. She LOVES it and says, “Ba – bear – Brennan” after each bite!”

Since the kids arrived around snack time, that was the first activity of the day! Empty hand size snack boxes were set out by “twigs,” “mushrooms,” “berries” and “brown bears” at kid-height to help themselves (with adult assistance of course.) I think it might have been the most popular detail of the party! The tall orange boxes, snack boxes and mini-snack boxes as well as the labels are all available with the Goldilocks Party Pack in the Frog Prince store!

On the back patio, there was lots of room for the kids to run around and play. We also put up a table for the childless adults to congregate at as well as the adult lunches. I asked Buds, Etc. to fill the mason jars I had with small arrangements that looked like someone had gone out and picked a handful of wildflowers and dropped them into a jar. The flowers were beautiful, and so incredibly perfect I couldn’t believe it! I’m still enjoying looking at them!

The last little detail of decor outside was “Just Right” for mama bears and papa bears. In addition to an assortment of sodas and waters, I found bear beer and wine at World Market, and set it out along with some mimosas for the parents to go along with lunch.

Next post will be about the party art I created to help create the bear house ambiance!
