Backyard Movie Party Decorations

The concession stand that was built for our evening under the stars was a crazy concoction of things I had hanging around the house. The black backing is a hollow core door painted black with a shelf I painted red attached to it. An old desk got a new life with a coat of red paint.

This backyard movie party has caramel popcorn cupcakes for showtime!

When I saw this “Showtime” sign, I couldn’t pass it up (buy it here), and a string of bulb LED lights (buy them here) topped off the ambiance for this look.

The marquis sign highlighting the night's movie lights up the night at a backyard movie party!

The movie marquee sign — it’s paper! After mounting it to foam core, I popped a few lights through the back to make the sign shine.

What concession stand is complete without a little bit of movie candy?

I think even more popular than the popcorn bar were these chocolate caramel popcorn cupcakes.

Backyard movie party beverages in a barrel. Pre-make cocktails for adult individual servings

A large galvanized wash tub holds all the beverages with style. Those are root beers and ginger ales for the kiddos, and for the adults, single-serve cocktails in mason jars. This really saves the mess of mixing drinks at the party, and is a completely fun way to offer up some variety.

Cardboard boxes turned cars make the perfect viewing area for the kids at a backyard movie party

Once everyone settles in with their snacks, it’s time to watch the movie! A sheet hung in the backyard for the screen does just fine, and cardboard boxes wrapped in paper with black paper plate wheels are just about the perfect way to go to the “drive in” for the movie.

Solo cups turned footlights add ambiance to a backyard movie party

Once the sun sets make a few of these “footlights” with a turned over solo cup (like the Halloween lights tutorial here) and battery operated tea lights–they make great, inexpensive ambiance.

Concession style movie candy can be wrapped up for party favors at a backyard movie party

If you’re having the kind of event where you might want to send home a party favor, look no further than those movie candy boxes from the concession stand. Add a tag and they’re the perfect take-home for guests.

We’ll see you at the movies!

This is a great idea. I love the popcorn bar and all the clever movie themed decorations and concessions. Five years ago I threw a movie themed 75th birthday party for my dad who is a film buff and we screened "Hopscotch" outside on the lawn. I wish I had done something like your concession stand for that party. Thanks so much for sharing it on Share Your Style.
